There are a number of powerful and downright creepy foes you will encounter in Naughty Dog’s popular post-apocalyptic game, The Last Of Us Part 2. One of these formidable enemies is Shamblers – former humans that now resemble pus-filled juggernauts that can cause serious damage via their terrible spore clouds. You will first encounter them at the TV station.
A number of players are having difficulty in killing Shamblers in The Last Of Us Part 2. Thus, we have come up with an all-new guide to help you deal with these monsters in the game.
How can One Use stealth to take down Shamblers?
As far as we know, it is not possible to kill Shamblers using melee stealth attacks of any sort. Possibly, this is because they themselves deal with upfront attacks most of the time. Although it is technically possible to kill Shamblers with an arrow straight into their heads, it is not a very reliable technique.
Thus, you will have to go with another way of killing these creatures. Read on to find out how.
The Most Effective way to Kill Shamblers in The Last Of Us 2
In The Last Of Us 2, the most effective way of taking down Shamblers is by using a combination of Trap Mines and a powerful weapon like the hunting pistol or rifle. The damage inflicted by these is sufficient to allow you to dispatch the Shambler easily. Since these creatures tend to make a beeline for you, placing mines in their path will badly injure and sometimes even kill them.
However, we advise against using shotguns because the Shamble’s spore clouds can cause severe damage to you at such a close range. Instead, you should try to remain in motion and engage the Shambler where they are at least a few meters of space between both of you. Try to use your revolver to aim directly for its head (which you can see protruding from its chest). You can also use Molotovs to hinder any Runners trying to ambush you.
Remember that melee attacks are not effective against Shamblers. This is because it will enable the Shambler to seize you and hold on tenaciously while continuing to release its toxic clouds. Needless to say, you will not survive for long in that case. Rather, use melee attacks to push past them and then shoot from a safe distance. As in the case of all Infected, try to keep them away to deal with more important threats first.
Additional hints
In case you are in a less-than-ideal position to fight, you can try sneaking away from Shamblers. They can and will see you, so make sure you are extra careful. If it looks like you cannot give them the slip without being noticed, you can try killing them using Trap Mines.
This is easier if, like in most cases, you are dealing with only one Shambler at a time. Use their predictable moves to your advantage and make sure you have an escape route ready, so that they are unable to corner you.
